Biography
Clemens Pilgram is an assistant professor at Kansas State University in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Regional & Community Planning. His research lies at the intersection of urban analytics, real estate, and sustainable transportation systems, with a strong emphasis on data science applications in urban planning.
Prior to joining Kansas State, Pilgram served as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Cincinnati’s Carl H. Lindner College of Business, working with the UC Real Estate Center under Dr. Gary Painter. He earned his PhD in Urban Planning and Development from the Sol Price School of Public Policy at the University of Southern California. His dissertation, titled "Urban Consumer Amenities and their Accessibility," explored spatial inequalities in urban livability and housing access using advanced geospatial and statistical methods.
Pilgram's scholarly contributions have been published in leading journals such as Transportation Research Part D, Urban Studies, and the Journal of Transport and Land Use. His work addresses critical urban challenges including the impacts of street network design on greenhouse gas emissions, transit-oriented development, pedestrian accessibility, and housing supply responsiveness.
He has presented his research at national and international conferences, including ACSP, APPAM, WRSA, TRB, and AREUEA, and has organized scholarly events such as the UC Real Estate Center Brownbag Seminar Series and the 2025 Miami University Oktoberfest Conference.
With a dual background in economics and geography from Macalester College and prior industry experience as a Senior Analyst at Analysis Group, Pilgram brings a quantitative, interdisciplinary lens to his research and teaching. His teaching portfolio includes real estate finance and principles, urban data science, and applied statistical analysis.
He is proficient in R, Python, Stata, GIS, SQL, and web development, and is fluent in English, German, and French.
